ORB Effect

Apply ORB to images and videos online

Wrap an image into a soft, distorted circular form. ORB combines polar mapping, ripples, channel shifts, and blur to turn ordinary photographs into flowing abstract color.

Ideas for using the effect

Abstract music artwork

Use a source image's colors as the basis for a circular cover graphic.

Liquid-looking visual loops

Let the animated ripple layers reshape the circular image over time.

Experimental identity backgrounds

Build a soft orb-like field behind a clear logo or headline.

Color composition studies

Compare different source photographs to see how their palettes change the final form.

Use ORB in Photoshop, Figma or on your desktop

One account, the same effect everywhere.

In Photoshop

Apply it to a layer in Photoshop 2022 and later, on macOS or Windows. The plugin renders on your own GPU and hands the result back as pixels on a new layer.

In Figma

Run it on images and frames without leaving the canvas. The Figma plugin is this same editor, pointed at whatever you have selected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply ORB online?

Open the ORB preset, add your image or video, and adjust the loaded effect layers to suit your source. Preview the result before exporting.

How does ORB create the circular shape?

Rectangular to Polar wraps the source, while Ripple, pinch, blur, and RGB Shift distort and soften it. Vignette and exposure finish the composition.

Can it animate a still photograph?

Yes. The saved Ripple layers have nonzero animation speeds. Their changing distortion can move through the circular form even when the source image is static.

How can I keep more recognizable detail?

Reduce Gaussian Blur and ripple amplitude first, then ease the RGB offsets. Adjust the polar center and radius to change which part of the source dominates the circular composition.

Is the result a 3D sphere?

The preset creates a two-dimensional image or video illusion through coordinate distortion. It does not generate a sphere mesh, a depth model, or a physically simulated liquid object.
